Description
This course shows how to set up Apache logging so that it fulfill your needs while not taking up too much space. Learn how to specify which fields to log, how to rotate logs or log to syslog. Analyze your log files using only built-in Linux commands - no need to install software. This course is designed for administrators who does not have the budget or support to install large monitoring or SIEM systems, but must manage Apache web servers with no additional support. Administrators who do have automatic logging , monitoring and analysis systems will also find value by getting a better understanding of the low-level detail from which the systems pull their reports. The course covers finding your logs, setting up better logging for your environment, making sure that you log only the fields that you actually need.It will show you how to manage the size of your logs by doing conditional logging, rotating logs, or logging to another server.Once the logs have been set up correctly, it shows you how to analyze the logs using only built-in Linux tools without the need to install additional software (or for those who are not allowed to install additional software on production systems). The analysis centers around performance and security analysis. The security analysis looks at the top attacks that generally occurs against web servers, and how to recognize their traces in the logs. The course ends with a section on how to stay up-to-date with the newest attacks and vulnerabilities.
